Yellow Cake with Chocolate Frosting

After frosting!
right out of the oven before frosting

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup butter, at room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1. Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 9x13 pan by greasing them and dusting with flour.

2. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

3. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, mix together the buttermilk and vanilla extract.

4. Mix (but don't over mix) a third of the flour mixture into the butter mixture. Then mix in half the buttermilk followed by another third of the flour mixture, the rest of the buttermilk, then the last of the flour mixture.

5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
